About New Life
Beginning in the early 1990s the United Methodist Church had recognized the need for a new church to be established in the growing area between Midlothian and Powhatan. According to County estimates at the time, this area should grow considerably as 288 is completed and as residential communities continue to expand to the West and South of Richmond and as Powhatan County continues to grow. This area was seen as a prime area to begin a new United Methodist Church.
In July 1997 Reverend David J. Bonney was appointed to begin the new church. The first worship service began on November 2, 1997 at the Roll O Rama skating rink in Midlothian.
In January 1998 the new church was named "New Life United Methodist Church." In October 1998 14.65 acres was purchased on Old Hundred Road by the Richmond District of the United Methodist Church. In December of that same year the Board of Trustees of New Life Church began work on a master plan for developing the recently purchased property. Hardwicke and Associates was the chosen architectural firm hired to design the church's phase I on Old Hundred Road.
In August 2000 the church moved it's temporary worship site to J. B. Watkins Elementary School on Coalfield Road in Midlothian.
In May 2002 the New Life United Methodist Church building was completed on Old Hundred Road. The people of this church are excited about their future and have produced excellent leaders to enable the church to live out God's dream.
The people of New Life Church understand their building as an "outpost" for Jesus Christ in a growing area. We exist to grow and nurture people as disciples of Jesus Christ, to be a peaceful and safe haven for the hurting and to go into our community and world to do acts of love, justice and mercy in Jesus' name.
