Dear New Life Friends,
Peace, calm and stillness are three words I’d use to describe Christmas Eve…
Now let me be clear, early in the day of Christmas Eve, that is not the case at all!
Early in the day of Christmas Eve there is a sense of frenetic pace to "wrap up" the final remaining things before the big day (see what I did there with “wrap up”).
But come Christmas Eve in the evening, there is a sense of peace, calm and stillness.
For me, often there is a moment while I’m enjoying the blessing of worship with family and friends. While we are lighting the Christ candle that we’ve waited weeks to light. While we sing praises to our marvelous God. While we share Christmas greetings.
There’s a moment of overriding peace, calm and stillness. A feeling that goes beyond what words can describe. A recognition and perspective that settles in.
It truly is a holy moment.
It’s a moment when perhaps not all the hustle and bustle is done, but there is limited left we can do. It’s a moment when we pause not only to think of all we’ve done in the past weeks, but what God has done throughout history. It’s a moment when we realize that although not all is well in the world, all is right with the world.
It’s a moment when we realize…
Christ has come.
Christ is come.
Christ is coming.
It’s a moment of peace, calm and stillness.
I hope you will join us this Christmas Eve for one of our worship services and invite someone to come with you who might be blessed by experiencing the peace, calm and stillness that only God can bring.
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Mike
