The view from the roof today was rainy, rainy, rainy. But while the rain dampened our socks, it did not dampen that awesome view. And buckets of rain cannot defeat buckets of concrete. The downpour did not get in the way of 700 wheelbarrows of concrete going up the new giant ramp (not really sure the number there—playing loose with stats). The weather did not win! I
I spent Day 4 on a roof that will be a floor, and the view was grand!
Basically, after many logistical stops and starts, we had a bit of a system where a team mixed concrete, a team put it in wheelbarrows and ran/pulled them up a ramp, a team transferred that concrete to buckets, a team hoisted the buckets up some scaffolding to the roof, and finally a line of 7-ish people relayed it to the place on the roof that is becoming a floor.
It was another wonderful in beautiful Costa Rica! It was our first work day, so our driver Javier carried us the fifteen minute drive to the church where we are working on a two story building that will serve as a parsonage for the pastor on the first floor and church classrooms on the second floor.
Wow! What a beautiful country filled with such colorful flowers and animals! After a delicious breakfast, our team headed out for a river boat tour. We saw alligators, iguanas, sloths, bats, frogs, birds, and a snake!
It was a long travel day but, we arrived safely on Saturday to begin our mission in Costa Rica. Our accommodations are amazing as we are nestled in the forrest.
